Shuttle Chodes Decoys
Autocon '03 Exclusive
I searched for this set a long, long time.
I consider it one of my two 'Holy Grail' of Decoys collecting, the other one being the Dave Van Domelen's painted Decoys for Botcon '97. Technically, they are not even official licensed figures but clear resin recasts of actual Decoys, made as an exclusive for Autocon in 2003 in July. This set was made to commemorate the 17th anniversary of Brawn's death, and it consists of four characters inside a paper-made spaceship, all the autobots are casted in clear resin to simbolize their ghosts (I think), as they are killed on their way to earth. It was produced in an extremely low quantity (only 9 sets plus one) and the Autobots figures are: Brawn, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Prowl. In 2011 I was fortunate enough to get in touch with crazysteve, the original creator, and he kindly pointed me in the right direction to acquire one thanks to Curt Fignar, the owner of TFsource.com. Him and crazysteve were part of a mailing list called Autocon on Yahoo Groups, in a time where forums weren't so common and social networks didn't exist at all. This group was a community of fans dedicated to uncover all the misteries about Transformers collecting, the japanese variations, how many Diaclones were produced and such. Imagine that almost without any kind of websites or wikia to help you with and you have a pretty good idea on how these people were into their collecting passion. They shortly started to organize conventions and making exciting exclusives. The first exclusive at the '2003 Autocon Mailing List WTF!?! Convention' was a resin casted Tetrajet (named Sunstorm..!) and the second was the 'Shuttle Chodes' Limited Decoy Giftset. Again, this is a custom project but I always dreamed to get one, maybe because I like translucent figures and I like Decoys or simply because it has a nifty package, nevertheless I'm very proud to have it in my collection.
