Ecologini
If there's an italian minifigures toyline wrapped in mistery this would be the one.
It came in stores in the 1990, following the 'ecologist' trend of toys like Capitan Planet but they weren't for sale, they were given as a freebie (one or two, depending on the store owner's generosity) if you spent a certain amount of money in the Amico Giò stores, one of the first franchising toy stores in Italy. They were advertised on Topolino too, a weekly Disney comic magazine, helping to reach as many kids as possible. The series is made up of 12 figures with a special power that helps the world's enviroment, each one wrapped in tiny cardboard boxes (ecological indeed) with a leaflet inside. The leaflet says:
Ecologini
the nature-saviours little geniuses.
They eat noise and bad smell,
bad breath, laughing gas, tossed plastic, abandoned paper. They devour smog, override spray you clean wherever you go if you take'em with you. This is a complete names list and their description (which is worth noting that, in italian, ends in rhymes).
After more than 20 years we have finally shed some light on this toyline, which its presence on the web was scarce to say the least. Ecologini figures
